1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit
Being part of western society, for the majority of people, we have such a variety of food available to us. Rice, pasta, chicken the list is endless. I once had a conversation with a guy about eating strange dishes; I was surprised he had refrained from telling me that he had eaten octopus, apparently it was too common to even bring up.
In the story of Daniel, where he “purposed in his heart” to be mindful of what was going into his body (Daniel 1:8), we see that Daniel understood what it meant to be a temple of God. For this young adult neither circumstance, peer pressure or culture were enough to sway his decision. For him, the decision of what and what not to eat was easy. No pray, no fasting, no need to assemble the church prayer warriors.
The text goes on to say “therefore glorify God in your body.” What a privilege… what a burden.
Help me make the difficult decisions concerning your temple, whether it be meats or fizzy drinks. Amen
